46-year old Stephen Cutting was arrested Sunday, after reportedly confessing to a relative who then turned him in.
Police have been trying to solve the murder of William Greenwood ever since his body was found in Portland back in 1995. It was a cold case they feared would never be solved.
Cutting reportedly told police he killed Greenwood after he picked him up while hitchhiking. They apparently got into an argument and cutting says he shot Greenwood with a hunting rifle in self defense.
Greenwood’s body was found along Warren Avenue in Portland.
Cutting has family in the Portland area but has been living with a now-former girlfriend in Palmyra since March.
Cutting did not enter a plea in court Tuesday.
He remains in the Cumberland County Jail.
