Thieves Targeting Churches

Police say someone broke into the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Family Bible Church late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Police found tire tracks leading to the back of the buildings.

Both churches were ransacked. Police say it doesn’t appear to be vandalism, the perpetrators were looking for things to steal.

The thieves took about $4,000 worth of items from the Family Bible Church including office supplies, a laptop computer, a small refrigerator and a base guitar.

Nothing was taken from the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

The Ellsworth Police Department is working with Bucksport police and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department on other church burglaries that could be related.

Anyone with information is being asked to call the police department at 667-2168.
