Warning for Climbers at Acadia National Park

Updated 6 years ago

Acadia National Park rangers say climbing areas at Otter Cliffs continue to be closed and those who attempt to climb face citations.

Officials say the area continues to be unstable after an estimated 19,000 pounds of granite broke away from the cliff on the evening of July 15.

Afterward park rangers closed the area but continued to have reports of people climbing on the rock face.

People caught climbing on the closed rock face on routes previously known as The Black Crack, Riptide and Razor Crack are subject to citation or arrest.
