Several residents along Dellaire Street in Winslow were forced to evacuate their homes Friday night after an alarm sounded to warn of a ground shift.
Town officials say the believe Friday night’s rain, coupled with the drawdown caused the erosion and slumping.
Town officials also say the movement detected was about a quarter of an inch and the largest area that has fallen is the bank below the cemetery.
There are large cracks in the soil along the Dellaire Street bank and pockets of erosion down by the storm drain and beyond.
Some residents were allowed back into their homes on Saturday to get some items, but they won’t be allowed to stay their until engineers say it’s safe.
