It happened around 4:30 Friday morning in the Northbound lane near Dysarts truck stop in Hampden.
Trooper Scott Jamilton says 22-year old Whitney Hammond of Pittsfield was driving when she apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
Her honda civic drifted from the highway and flipped over three times.
Neither Hammond, nor her passenger, was wearing a seatbelt.
Hammond was thrown from the car and killed.
Her passenger, 29-year old Karyn Young of Bangor, was found in the Southbound lane.
She suffered numerous injuries and was rushed to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Karyn was last reported to be in serious condition.
