The Bureau of Parks and Lands wanted the facility in order to accommodate campers.
They say the park in Lamoine is one of the few camping parks in the state that still doesn’t have a dumping station.
A number of residents who live near the park were opposed to the plan, and, as it turns out, the Lamoine planning board agreed.
The board ruled that the proposed dumping site would be too close to a neighbor’s property.
The board did approve building a pavilion for large gatherings.
A geological study is still needed before plans can proceed.
