State animal welfare agents say more and more people are getting rid of their horses because they can’t afford them any longer. The Last Chance Ranch in Troy has recently taken in 4 horses that owners couldn’t keep. 2 more are being dropped off soon says owner, Cathy Mesaric.
Soaring gas prices are fueling the costs of hay and grain going up. Last year it cost Mesaric and her partner nearly 30-thousand dollars to run the non profit ranch. Much of the money came out of their pockets.
