A lobster boat caught fire and sank off the Maine coast, but the lone lobsterman on board jumped overboard in a survival suit and was rescued by another fishing boat.
The Coast Guard said the 35-foot boat, Perry’s Pride III out of South Bristol, caught fire at 9 a.m. Saturday about five miles from Boothbay Harbor.
By the time Coast Guard vessels arrived, another fishing boat had already retrieved the 50-year-old lobsterman from the water.
The Coast Guard then took him ashore, where he was transferred to a Boothbay Harbor hospital.
The Coast Guard says the boat sank in 108 feet of water and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
