The crash happened around 12:30 Thursday morning on Route 15 near the Cemetery Road in Stonington.
Police say 16-year-old Joshua Weeks of Deer Isle had four other teenagers in his car when he failed to make it around a curve and crossed into the opposite lane.
They say 45-year-old Keith Trundy, also from Deer Isle, tried to avoid the oncoming car, but his dump truck ended up slamming into it nearly head-on. Trundy wasn’t hurt, but everyone in the car was injured.
Joshua Weeks received a broken leg and possible internal injuries and had to be airlifted to the hospital.
One of his passengers, 18-year-old John Thomas of Damariscotta received a broken collar bone and possible internal injuries. He was brought to the Blue Hill hospital and eventually airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center. As was 18-year-old Rebekah Alley of Stonington who also received possible internal injuries and head trauma.
The other two passengers received less severe injuries, but were hospitalized.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was out Thursday morning reconstructing the accident, trying to figure out exactly how it happened.
