Lobster Boat Catches Fire

Updated 6 years ago

THICK BLACK SMOKE COULD BE SEEN FOR MILES AROUND ROCKPORT HARBOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, AFTER A LOBSTER BOAT CAUGHT FIRE.

IT HAPPENED JUST AFTER FOUR P-M…..

THE BOAT’S OWNER, DAVID LELAND WAS ON BOARD AT THE TIME.

HE WAS RESCUED BY SOME NEARBY BOATERS—

FIREFIGHTERS HAD DIFFICULTY BATTLING THE BLAZE BECAUSE THE BOAT, NAMED MISS MELINDA, WAS SEVERAL FEET OFF SHORE…..

NO ONE WAS INJURED… BUT TWO OTHER SAIL BOATS WERE DAMAGED BY THE FLAMES AND HEAT…..

ROCKPORT FIRE CHIEF BRUCE WOODWARD SAYS THE DEPARTMENT USED THE HARBOR MASTER’S BOAT TO GET AS CLOSE TO THE MISS MELINDA AS POSSIBLE—

THEY WERE ABLE TO NUDGE THE VESSEL CLOSER TO SHORE, WHERE FIRE FIGHTERS USED FOAM TO PUT OUT THE FIRE…..

NO WORD YET ON A CAUSE…..THE BOAT IS DESTROYED.
