Power Upgrades

Updated 6 years ago

Central Maine Power is proposing $1.4 billion to build a new, 345,000-volt transmission line from Orrington, Maine, to Newington, N.H. Spokesman John Carroll says the goal of that project is to upgrade and improve the existing grid, which dates to 1971.

Also, CMP and Maine Public Service Co. are planning another 345,000-volt line extending from central Maine to northern Aroostook County at a cost of $400 million to $500 million.

The latter project would accommodate wind power projects proposed for Northern Maine, as well as open up the regional grid to electricity from New Brunswick, Canada.
