St. Louis Appeal Denied

In their ruling, the justices found that Heath St. Louis of Abbot failed to show that the insurer’s destruction of the vehicle that he and the victims were riding in contained evidence that could have proved his innocence.

The Supreme Judicial Court said the state committed a serious oversight in allowing the car to be released for destruction but did not act in bad faith.

St. Louis was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison, with all but 3 years suspended, in the deaths of 22-year-old Elias Russell of Parkman and 21-year-old Drake Martell of Sangerville.

The sentence was stayed pending the appeal.
