Aiden Simon Mackle of Portadown was sentenced in U.S. District Court on charges of assault and interference with a flight crew. T he sentence amounted to the time he has served since his arrest in March.
Mackle became unruly while drinking on a Delta flight from Atlanta to Dublin, Ireland. When a flight attendant confronted him after he smoked a cigarette in the restroom, he said he was associated with Osama bin Laden and was going to hijack the plane.
According to court documents, he also punched an off-duty Delta employee and said he was a terrorist. The pilot diverted the plane with 185 passengers to Bangor International Airport.
