The blaze broke out at the North Country Antique Shop on Main St. Sunday morning.
There were also 10 apartments and an office in the building.
The fire marshal’s office says the blaze started in a first floor unit occupied by a 65-year old woman, and that smoking in bed is the cause.
No one was seriously injured.
The American Red Cross was in Patten to aid some of the displaced families and a number of townspeople have also come forward with offers of help.
