The KIDS R.S.U. is the first in Maine to consolidate five towns into one district.
KIDS R.S.U. is short for Kennebec Intra-District Schools, Regional School Unit.
The unit was approved overwhelmingly by voters under the state’s new reorganization law last week.
The district will include Richmond, Monmouth, Dresden, and M.S.A.D. #16 which encompasses Hallowell and Farmingdale.
Several reorganization plans have been approved across the state, but this is the first to be sent to voters and gain approval.
There are now twenty-one plans approved by the commissioner. All plans must be in place by July of 2009.
