Candidates seeking their party’s nomination have been criss-crossing the state in one last push before Tuesday’s elections.
Campaigning has been heavy in Southern Maine, where six democrats and two republicans are vying for the house seat being vacated by Democratic Congressman Tom Allen. He’s challenging Republican Senator Susan Collins.
Also on the primary ballots, six contests among democrats for state senate and 18 house primaries, 10 featuring democrats and 8 featuring republicans.
Mainers are also being asked to consider nearly 30 million dollars in long-term borrowing for natural resource, agricultural and transportation projects.
Election day is also an important day for petition gatherers hoping to get proposals onto the statewide ballot.
Signatures are being collected on a number of people’s veto campaigns including Real ID license restrictions and a tax hike on beer, wine and soda to pay for the Dirigo Health Plan.
