They ended up running for cover when the owner came out and opened fire with a shotgun.
Joseph Lord called police this afternoon after he noticed two males were making off with scrap metal outside his machine shop on the Kimball Pond Road.
Lord saw the thieves truck and shot several tires, windows and the radiator. The thieves then fled into the woods.
This was not the first time lord had been a victim of scrap metal theft. Over the weekend, several thousand pounds of metal worth about $3,000 were taken.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office used the trucks registration to contact its owner and identified the two thieves.
No arrests have been made yet.
