One Dies in Early Morning Crash

It began just before 2 o’clock Monday morning, when a pair of vehicles collided near mile marker 117.

State Police say 53-year-old Jeffery Blais of Augusta was headed the wrong way on the interstate.

He slammed head on into a smaller car driven by 32-year-old Shannon Casey of Portland.

Police say Blazer’s vehicle veered off the road, caught on fire, and rolled into a tree.

Blazer was killed in the crash.

Casey was critically injured.

Seven miles of the turnpike on the southbound side were shut down for several hours, while police investigated.
