Fifty-three-year-old Jeffrey Blais was killed instantly when his car collided with a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Shannon Casey of Portland shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. Casey was flown by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with critical injuries.

State police say Blais is believed to have driven north in the southbound lanes for about four miles before his car smashed into the southbound vehicle and burst into flames.

Augusta police say they received a report minutes before the crash of a vehicle similar to Blais’ car parked on a bridge over the Kennebec River with the driver outside the car yelling.
