This weekend’s opening is just in time to celebrate it’s 175th anniversary.
The meeting house closed about two years ago, so work could be done on the steeple, but that’s not all folks will notice.
It also has a new roof, as well as a new weather vane.
Geraldine Dobson-Smith is the president of Winterport Union Meeting House Incorporated.
She says none of this would be possible without the support of community members. And she hopes they’ll reap the rewards.
":We hope it’s used more for weddings, for concerts, it has very nice acoustics.": Smith told TV5 Thursday. ":We’ve had song fests here in the past. We’d like to see this building serve the community’s needs.":
A grand re-opening and 175th anniversary celebration is scheduled for this Sunday.
The festivities start at two o’clock in the afternoon there will a free concert featuring local musicians, as well as a tour of the building.
