Augusta Walmart Fire

An employee, who’s a volunteer firefighter, was able to put it out.

Augusta fire chief Roger Audette says the smoke was so thick, the building needed to be evacuated for about an hour.

A wall heater malfunction may be to blame for the fire.

Audette says a food inspector from the agriculture department was called in to determine if any of the food needs to be taken off the shelves due to the smoke.
