Toxic Chemical Ban

Pingree is featured on the CBS Evening News in a two-part series on toxic flame retardants.

Pingree sponsored the bill in 2007 that banned a certain flame retardant chemical in Maine household products. Three years earlier she passed a bill banning two other flame retardants that have been proven to harm humans and the environment.

Pingree says she’s proud to be at the forefront of this issue, and she’ll keep pushing it to protect Mainers.

She has taken part in a study measuring how many chemicals were in her body, testing positive for more than eighty which could have negative impacts on humans.

Pingree grew up on North Haven, and says she’s lived a healthy lifestyle, so it’s apparent to her that anyone can be invaded by these chemicals.
