17 stones in the historic Village Burial Ground have been damaged.
Ship’s captains and some of the town’s founding families are buried there.
The Bar Harbor Historical Society is helping refurbish the cemetary.
They say it will take thousand of dollars to repair all the damage.
The town is filing a vandalism claim with the Maine Municipal Association.
It’s not known if any of the cost will be covered.
A fund has been set up to help with the repairs.
Donations can be sent to the Bar Harbor Historical Society at 33 Ledgelawn Avenue in Bar Harbor.
They need to be ear marked village cemetery restoration.
