The Land Use Regulation Commission is trying to update the comprehensive plan for the unorganized territory.
A senior planner with L.U.R.C. says the commission wants to get a better handle on residential development spread out across that region.
The other goal is to create regulations for new uses of the land. Uses such as wind power projects, water extraction, and resort development.
L.U.R.C. hosted a series of workshops over the last two weeks to listen to comments about the draft plan.
Land owner Keith Lane says he’s concerned about too much control by state regulators who don’t have a personal stake in unorganized territory.
L.U.R.C. says it’s received a wide range of comments about the plan.
To learn more about the plan you can visit the L.U.R.C. website at www.maine.gov/doc/lurc
Public comment will be accepted until June 6th.
Comments and questions can also be e-mailed to [email protected], or call 287-2631.
L.U.R.C. hopes to have a final plan approved by commissioners and the governor early next year.
