City councilor Richard Greene is accused of shoplifting from a local grocery store.
Police say Greene was arrested on Monday after he tried to leave the Hannaford store on Broadway without paying for a cart load of groceries.
In addition to the theft Greene is now charged with violating his bail conditions that were set following a previous incident. In that case Greene is accused of forging signatures in order to get city money for services he never delivered.
Greene has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Greene is still a member of the city council, although he has not been participating in meetings.
