Fire in Dexter Apartment Building

Crews were called out on a report of smoke coming from a barn on Main Street at around noon on Tuesday. But, when fire fighters arrived on scene flames had already spread to the neighboring house.

Jessica Jacobs rents the downstairs apartment. She, her mother and daughter all made it out safely when they realized there was smoke inside.

&quot:We lost everything. We’re trying, I mean I’ve got people helping me. My daughter’s teacher is helping us out. We lost everything.&quot:

A pet dog was still missing as of Wednesday morning.

Dexter fire chief Barry Deering says windy conditions made it harder to control the blaze.

The fire marshal’s office has been called in to investigate.
