It’s called E-10. Which is 10% ethanol mixed with gasoline.
It’s been found at gas pumps across the nation for years. However, the biofuel is now just making it’s way into Maine.
The E-10 fuel started to arrive in the state earlier this month in the Portland area but it is expected to expand to central Maine by the summer.
Maine Oil Dealers Association Executive Director, Jamie Py says there are two reasons why:
The fuel burns more cleanly and helps reduce America’s dependancy on foreign oil. Also, federal subsidies give a five cents per gallon incentive for companies to produce and market E-10.
While those are seen as positives. There are problems associated with ethanol including putting it into your boat.
