The law signed by Bush on Thursday increases the coastal park’s land acquisition ceiling by $10 million and authorizes the interior secretary to take more steps to develop an off-island transportation facility to serve Acadia visitors. It also extends the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission for 20 more years.
Maine Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe supported the bill.
Collins says it will help make the park stronger leading up to its centennial anniversary in 2016. Senator Snowe says more than $2 million visitors come to Acadia each year.
