23-year-old Mika Mitchell pled not guilty to manslaughter in court Monday.
Mitchell showed very little emotion as he was asked by the judge what his plea was. In fact, Mitchell was silent as his lawyer gave the not guilty plea.
Court documents state that on March 3rd Mitchell was left alone with his one month old daughter Pandora Mitchell.
The mother, 17-year-old Tasha Lewis had left to go to the store.
When she came back, Mitchell reportedly told her there was something wrong with their child.
The affidavit indicates a that 911 call was made, and that Mitchell told a dispatcher that his daughter was having difficulty breathing and she was turning colors.
The baby was taken to a Skowhegan hospital where doctors noted bruising on the child’s cheeks and forehead. The baby was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center where she died 3 days later of traumatic brain injuries.
Court documents state that Mitchell denied injuring his baby.
Arnie Clark, Mitchell’s lawyer asked the court to reconsider bail conditions Monday. One of those conditions Clark will ask to be removed is that Mitchell have no contact with Tasha Lewis.
