Richard Widdecomb jr. entered pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity in his first court appearance.
Widdecomb is accused of killing 29-year-old Katie Cabana of Marshfield, and 41-year-old Aaron Settipani of Eastport.
Katie’s three children were there when she was killed. Her 6-year-old daughter was shot in the foot.
The family says the children are doing well, but that their lives have been changed forever.
":I have two daughters now. That’s what I have, and we are going to stay close. You want to kiss everyone you love, and really love them because you never know if you’ll ever see them again.": Katie Cabana’s mother, Ray Ann Wilder told TV5 on Monday.
After the shooting deaths there were suggestions made that somehow the victims were to blame.
Domestic violence officials say it’s a typical response to try to understand how something so horrible could happen.
Katie’s family says they are very thankful for everyone who reached out with support.
