Spring Brush Fire

The call came in around 5:30 pm, saying that a controlled burn on the River Road was quickly spreading out of control.

Orrington fire chief Mike Spencer says this was a case of burning during the wrong conditions.

The homeowner did take the necessary precautions to safely burn grass: like soaking down the area surrounding the burn: but, with Monday’s strong the winds the fire spread quickly to three acres of field and one acre of woods.

Chief Spencer says you should always have a water source nearby when burning, or call the local fire department and have them do it instead.
