Thursday the Governor also signed a bill to increase the state’s rate from the current $7 per hour to $7.50, over a two-year period.
Of all the New England states, Maine and New Hampshire have the lowest minimum wage pay.
The lawmaker who pushed the bill to pass says it’s crucial to raise wages to help the economy.
Some business owners say the increase could mean jobs losses.
The first 25 cent increase will take effect October first the second increase in the fall of 2009.
