A man from California will spend the rest of his life in prison for a murder in Maine 35 years ago. Police say DNA linked John Puckett to the rape and murder of 22 year-old Diana Sylvester of Winthrop. She moved to San Francisco shortly after graduating from nursing school. Puckett is now 74. The decades-old murder case was reopened because of grant money San Francisco police used to create a DNA profile of the killer. One of Sylvester’s sisters says even after all these years, Puckett’s arrest provides a sense of relief for the family.
