911 calls began to come in just after six o’clock Sunday evening. Witnesses saw a plane crash into the bay near Belfast.
Belfast police called in the Coast Guard.
They brought boats and a helicopter, and searched the waters all night for the pilot and the wreckage of the plane.
The Searsport Harbormaster is helping, along with several other local boaters:
":We haven’t found the wreckage yet, and we haven’t found the person who was piloting the plane. So it’s still a search and rescue at this point.":
There are unconfirmed reports that a single red flare was fired late Sunday night.
There has been no word yet on how long the Coast Guard will continue the search.
They’ve set up a command post in the Rockland area.
The pilot’s name has not been released.
