A Penobscot County jury deliberated for an hour Wednesday afternoon before finding 35-year-old Peter Tuller guilty in the June 2006 death of 47-year-old Michael Demmons.
Tuller now faces 25 years to life in prison.
During the three-day trial, witnesses testified that Tuller beat Demmons so severely that the victim’s skull was fractured more than 10 times and his ribs were pulverized. Demmons’ body was found tied-up, with plastic trash bags over his head, in an apartment he was sharing with 46-year-old Maria Santos.
During the trial, Santos invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself and refused to answer questions about her possible role in Demmons’ death.
