The cuts take effect on April first, and are aimed at addressing the revenue shortfall of $190 million.
The cuts come as the legislature’s appropriations committee continues discussions over human services cutbacks proposed by the governor.
Governor Baldacci says his latest order to cut spending is a safety net in case a budget fails to pass.
":I have no reason to believe we’re not going to get the budget passed but I need to make sure we ensure there are 2 options here to balance the budget just in case.": Governor Baldacci told TV5 Tuesday.
The governor had already cut state spending by $38 million in December.
House speaker Glenn Cummings says he hopes to see a budget pass by the end of this month.
