An autopsy is planned to confirm the identity of a body recovered from the Penobscot River.
The body that was discovered Friday in Stockton Springs bore the identification of Matt LaCrosse, who was last seen on Nov. 9 outside Carolina’s Sports and Spirits in downtown Bangor.
A search and rescue dog tracking the 25-year-old LaCrosse followed a scent from the bar to the railing of the State Street Bridge over Kenduskeag Stream.
Steve DeWitt, LaCrosse’s brother-in-law, says the family is happy to have some closure.
The autopsy was being conducted Sunday by the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta. Results were not expected to be released until Monday.
