By the time the flames were discovered at Carl Butler’s home on Hillcrest Circle, the blaze had too much of a head start according to officials.
A local fire fighter was among the witnesses who first spotted the smoke, and called for help.
When crews arrived on the scene, the fire had engulfed the home and was threatening a nearby garage.
Fire crews then concentrated their attack on the garage, trying to save that structure.
At this point, fire officials aren’t sure of the cause. They say that the fire seems to have started in the rear of the building, possibly somewhere in the basement.
Due to the extent of the damage, fire chief Sam Chisholm says finding a cause could be impossible.
We’re told no one was there when the fire started.
