Newburgh Crash Blamed on Dog

State police say 51-year-old Stephen Richmond, a native of Arizona, was stopped at the intersection of Routes 9 and 69.

Witnesses say the car started through the intersection, and into the side of an oncoming tractor trailer, driven by 32-year-old Daniel Chauffe, of Winterport.

The big rig pushed the car several feet before coming to a stop.

Richmond had to be cut out of the wreckage.

Police say Richmond had a small poodle in the car with him.

It may have jumped into his lap, blocking his view of the truck.

Neither Richmond nor the driver of the big rig were seriously hurt.

The dog was taken to a local vet for observation.
