A man from Ireland who pleaded guilty to armed robbery charges stemming from a 2006 bank holdup will spend close to the next ten years behind bars.Niall Clarke (26)pleaded guilty to robbing the Bank of America Branch at the Bangor Mall at gun point in October of 2006.
This morning in US District Court one of the bank’s employees told the court she’s still traumatized by Clarke’s actions on that day, and every time someone walks into the bank with a hood on she wonders if it will happen all over again.
US District Judge John Woodcock is also recommending Clark be provided with psychological and substance abuse treatment, and that he be able to serve some of his prison term back home in Ireland.
The federal government had recommended an overall prison sentence of slightly more than ten years. Clarke has been held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland for the last 15 months.
