A 64-year-old man has perished in a fire
that swept through his home in the Piscataquis County town of
Investigators from the state Fire Marshal’s Office say the body
of Leroy Nightingale Jr. was found near his second-floor bedroom.
Nightingale lived alone in the home with his two dogs, both of
whom died in the Friday night blaze.
Investigators concluded that the fire started in the living
room, apparently from a reclining chair that was placed too close
to a wood stove.
It was Maine’s fifth fire death this year.
