Summer Highway Work

A 22-mile section of Interstate 295 may be shut down this summer to rebuild the highway from Gardiner to Topsham. Maine Department of Transportation officials are considering closing the road and rerouting traffic onto the Maine Turnpike or Route 201. For the safety of construction workers. Officials say shutting down the roads can cut up to 75% of the time needed for road projects. The project will affect eight communities and will cost $32,000,000.
