An employee at Ruth Foster’s discovered holes in the store windows when they got to work on Saturday morning.
When police went to investigate, they found that four more downtown stores had also been shot at.
Officers believe that a b.b. or pellet gun was used to vandalize the businesses.
Police say someone also broke the change machines on 10 dryers at the Downeast Laundry Mat on High Street on Sunday night.
A couple hundred dollars worth of change is missing, but police say the greater concern is the damage that was done to the dryers.
A tan or beige Chevy or G.M.C. extended cab pick up was seen parked near the laundry mat, and two people were with it.
Police aren’t sure if the pair were involved, but authorities would like to talk to them.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the Ellsworth police department at 667-2168.
