Accident at Toboggan Champioships

The 18th annual National Toboggan

Championships were called off following an accident that sent five

people to the hospital.

Paramedic Jane Moore of Camden First Aid Association said two

toboggans were involved in a crash at the bottom of the toboggan

chute shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.

She said one person was flown by medical helicopter to Eastern

Maine Medical Center, with four others taken by ambulance to

Penobscot Bay Medical Center. A person at the Camden Snow Bowl said

none of the injuries were life-threatening.

About 400 teams from as far away as Georgia and California had

signed up for this year’s competition at the Camden Snow Bowl.

Teams compete by riding toboggans down a 400-foot toboggan chute

onto a frozen pond.
