Maine Smoking

The American Lung Association’s annual report card gives Maine A’s in three categories, but a B for not having high enough taxes on cigarettes.

All 50 states were graded on four areas for their tobacco control efforts: Restricting youth access, limiting exposure to secondhand smoke, discouraging demand through high prices and funding comprehensive tobacco prevention and treatment programs.

Elsewhere in northern New England, Vermont was right behind Maine with two As and two B’s, while New Hampshire ended up with two C’s, a D and an F in the lung association’s report.
