More Snow on the Way

Get out your shovels and long johns. More

snow is on the way.

The National Weather Service says a storm will arrive late

Sunday and drop heavy snow across much of Maine, with the deepest

amounts along the coast.

Forecasters say more than six inches is possible along southern

and central areas before the storm winds down Monday afternoon.

Five to 10 inches are expected in Downeast areas, with the heaviest

amounts along the coast.

With just a day left in the month, snowfall totals for December

are far above normal.

According to the National Weather Service, Portland had gotten

about 30-and-a-half inches through Saturday. That’s the highest

December total since 1995, and more than double the average

December snowfall.

Bangor has gotten more than 34 inches, and Caribou has received

about 51 inches — both of which are more than double the norm.
