State police say 17 year old Matthew Osborn of Winterport was killed when he was hit by a jeep after exiting his car, which was pulled to the side of the highway near the Hogan Road exit around 5:30 Monday night.
Police say Osborn may have been picking up parts from a barbeque grill that had fallen out of his pick-up truck. He was hit by the Jeep minutes later.
The driver of the Jeep told TV-5 that it ":looked like a deer or a card board box in the middle of the road.": She says she didn’t realize what she hit until it was too late, she tried to swerve, but couldn’t stop from hitting the young man.
Osborn was pronounced dead at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Police closed off I-95 for a few hours to reconstruct the scene. It has since reopened. Police do not plan to press any charges.
