Bogus Bills in Skowhegan

Updated 6 years ago

Hundreds of dollars in bogus bills have

been turning up in the Skowhegan area — including district court,

where a man tried to pay a 100-dollar fine with counterfeit

20-dollar bills.

Police say the phony bills started showing up in local

businesses in November, but they’ve been surfacing in other Maine

communities, including Lewiston and Kittery, as well.

In Skowhegan, a local man was arrested Wednesday for passing two

counterfeit 50-dollar bills at a local cleaners and was caught on

film. The same day, a man was questioned by police for passing what

appeared to be bogus bills in district court.
