A Canadian research marketing company has chosen the city as their first site in the united states.
Last week voters defeated a question on the ballot that would have allowed a racino in Washington County.
Calais officials say that initiative is now in the past, and they are looking forward to a brighter future with this announcement.
Acrobat Research is a Canadian company that does opinion polls, political surveys, and customer satisfaction studies for companies all over the world.
They plan to create about 80 full time and one hundred 30 part time jobs at a new call center in Calais.
":I know there’s a need for employment here which matches our need to find employees.": Said the owner of Acrobat, Roland Klassen. ":From a building perspective secondarily, there is a building here that was used as a call center before that is ready to go. We will have to do very little.":
Acrobat Research will be hiring people for all levels of employment including supervisors and managers.
The company will open the call center in Calais only if enough people apply for the jobs.
They have set November 28th as a deadline, but company officials say they are proceeding full speed ahead.
With so many people unemployed in the area both company and Calais officials say there should be no problem filling all the positions.
Acrobat Research hopes to begin operations on January 2nd.
