(AP) Early voting began a week before Election Day in Portland, Bangor and Readfield, and it’s being deemed a success in each of them.
Early voting is different from absentee balloting in that clerks don’t have to put the ballots in envelopes and keep them alphabetized.
Portland City Clerk Linda Cohen, who was still dealing with absentee ballotsTuesday morning, says early voting is easier on her election staff.
In Portland, Cohen says there were 579 early voters, along with 700 absentee ballots. In Bangor, 1,200 of the city’s 20,000 voters cast early ballots either through absentee ballot or by early voting. In Readfield the figure was 100.
